About the Process

The creation of one of my paintings is a complex and skilled process. Here’s a quick summary of what goes into making a unique commissioned artwork for a client.

1: Photographing the Car
I like to collect as many visual references as possible
2: Preparing the Base
I sand the wood, draw the outline, and lay down several base layers of Gesso to get a smooth working surface
3: Painting the Car
I paint the basic forms, refining them with new layers
4:Adding the Details
I work and rework details like chrome trim, badges, tyre texture, and reflections
5: Varnishing, framing and sending
I usually apply several layers of varnish to protect the painting. Framing is carefully chosen in consultation with the client. Shipping is via specialist fine art shippers or courier service, or as agreed with the client.

About Me

I originally trained as an architect (Manchester and Kingston Universities), and worked in design-led offices in London (Ahrends, Burton & Koralek; Evans & Shalev). But my passion for making art took over, and I developed a career as an illustrator, animator and artist. My art has been focused on Biblical themes,  until recently, when I rediscovered my long-lost passion for cars, and that’s when these handcrafted automotive icons were born.
