Motoring Art: the Dream

Cars have been seen as objects of beauty ever since the first motor vehicles appeared. Artists have been capturing the sculptural form of these mechanical creations in paintings and sculpture for about a hundred years. Some of the most outstanding automotive images were created in the 1920s and 30s for use in posters and brochures to help manufacturers sell more cars. What was being sold was as much a dream of freedom and individuality, as the car itself.

In my own artwork, I aim to capture the lines and character of some of the most beautiful car designs, as well as some of the most ordinary ones. I shall be painting Jensens or Ferraris but I also hope to depict Hillmans or Austin Maxis.
