Once, many years ago, classic cars were called vintage cars, and vintage car art had fewer practitioners than today, and was far less diverse its array of styles. In those times, on an ordinary suburban street just outside London, a young man was carefully retouching a scratch on the side of his MGB. It was a bright but cold Sunday morning. He had just washed the car, so it was gleaming and sparkling in the sun. The scratch disturbed him because it was the sole imperfection in the otherwise mirror-smooth surface of the bodywork. The deep green had a brooding, dark lustre which spoke to him of British racing history: Of the Bentleys his father had told him about, and of Jaguars which he himself had seen on the legendary track at Brooklands.
That same young man is rather older now. So is the MGB which he still owns. Delighted with himself for having kept the car in such beautiful condition, he sits back in his soft leather swivel-chair in his study, and takes a sip of his favourite single malt. Looking across the room, he admires the painting of the green Roadster hanging on the wall. Painted carefully on wood panel, the artwork glows with a golden hue, lit by the warm aura of the recessed ceiling lights. He commissioned the painting himself in 2018, to celebrate 50 years of ownership.
This is a canvas print of that same painting, which can hang in your study. With the help of your own favourite whisky, it can bring you a similar feeling of calm and contentment!
